Power Ten Rowing Grant for Crew Haven

Feb 9, 2023

Power Ten, a fraternal organization celebrating and supporting the sport of rowing since 1982, has made a $5,000 grant to Crew Haven. Lawrence Lopez Menzies, co-founder and board member, thanked the Power Ten stewards at their 41st annual dinner in New York City.

The Stewards at Power Ten have helped support and celebrate many of the rowing greats of the past 41 years, and with this grant we are thrilled to invest in Crew Haven and the rowing stars of the future. - Lynda from Power Ten

Lopez-Menzies thanked the stewards by saying a few words about the program to an audience of 300 at the annual dinner at the New York Racquet Club in New York City. The dinner, which draws rowers and coaches from across the nation, honored the 1988 Olympic Silver medalists in the men's coxless four and life-long supporters of the sport: Richard Kennelly, David Krmpotich, Thomas Bohrer and Raoul Rodriguez.

Having Power Ten's support in our mission to increase access to rowing is inspiring," said Lopez-Menzies. "It reflects the sense of urgency for diverse growth within the sport and their contribution will go a long way in allowing us to get more new faces on the water this Spring. It could not have come at a better time!"

Now entering its third year, the youth program has 30 participants, according to Hollis Martens, Executive Director. The program partnered with Canal Dock Boathouse for a variety of boating opportunities, academic support & mentoring Monday through Friday, and plans to be back on the New Haven Harbor this Spring. Two scrimmages, with Valley Regional and Hopkins, are planned for May, with more scrimmages possible later this Spring with Starr Rowing, Saugatuck, Greenwich Academy, Greenwich Crew and RowNY.
