Power Ten, a fraternal organization celebrating and supporting the sport of rowing since 1982, has made a $5,000 grant to Crew Haven. Lawrence Lopez Menzies, co-founder and board member, thanked the Power Ten stewards at their 41st annual dinner in New York City.

Crew Haven Corporation and Canal Dock Boathouse have partnered to create the Crew Haven Youth Rowing Program, a Sports Based Youth Development program that will bring competitive and recreational rowing, as well as academic after-school programming, to students in underrepresented communities in New Haven.

Growing up on Chicago’s West Side, 14-year-old Arshay Cooper’s daily concerns included not wearing the wrong color shirt in the wrong neighborhood or having a baseball cap tilted the wrong way on his head.

Alders unanimously signed off on a new 10-year, $10-per-square-foot lease between the University of New Haven and the city that will allow the West Haven-based educational institution to build out new labs, classroom space, and public programs at the Canal Dock Boathouse on Long Wharf.
