Dragon Boating

Dragon boating is a fun-filled, adrenaline pumping, water sports activity. Teams usually compete or friends go out and explore New Haven harbor in Dragon Boats, which are large canoe-like vessels fitted with ornately carved dragon's heads and tails. Crews sit in pairs and paddle with a drummer beating time to keep the paddlers in unison and a helmsperson in the stern guiding the boat.

As a member of Canal Dock Boathouse, you and fellow members can go out in our “Baby Dragon” that accommodates up to eight paddlers, a drummer and a helmsperson. It’s a great way to explore New Haven Harbor and the Quinnipiac River. Dragon Boat Racing is now the fastest growing water sport in the world and a favorite among charities and corporations for its fundraising and team-building benefits. Sixth Annual Dragon Boat Regatta

June 3, 2023

We are currently looking for teams (16 paddlers and 1 drummer) and individuals to participate in our annual Dragon Bat Regatta on Saturday, June 3, 2023 from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm. No experience necessary.

​

Teams Consist Of:

• 16 paddlers

• 1 drummer

• Teams must have at least 6 females inclusive of transgender, nonbinary and gender nonconforming individuals

​

Team Entry Fee is $1700. CLICK HERE for team registration information. Includes pracitce time the week of the regatta.

 

Individuals are welcome to join our community boat for $100 per person. Meet new friends and have a fun day of competition. CLICK HERE for individual registration information.

Teams are encouraged to enter and compete against ASSA ABLOY, Sargent Manufacturing, Griffin Hospital, Tough Girls Fitness, and other local corporate teams. Not only is Dragon Boating a great team building activity but it is a nice day in the great outdoors! 

No experience is necessary so come on out and have some fun.
