Sail Haven Boat Maintenance and Repair Session 2

Saturday, February 28th, 9am-12pm.

We are working on repairs and maintenance to get our fleet ready for the 2026 season. We have two, new to us, Flying Scots. They need all sorts of repairs and modifications to make them Community boating ready.

Proposed tasks:

  • Finish Ladder installation on Flying Scot "Aurelian".
  • Burrs where filed off flying Scot lifting bars. They are now ready for painting.
  • Last season two Shallow Water Mark were delivered broken. The company replaced them, but did not want the broken ones returned. A plan and parts list to repair them was made. They are over $300 apiece, so this effort is quite a savings to Sail Haven. We have a plan to rebuild them, and the parts...
  • Main Sheet fittings were removed from the Centerboard trunk caps. We can now replace them with/out the cleats and with ratchet blocks. Four out of five Flying Scots are complete. Need to finish the last Scot.
  • Cut vertical piece from a laser mast to replace rotting mast support on Flying Scot Trailer. Need to finish project.
  • Install new Main Sheet system on the Nomad (Original system had too much friction).
    • Remove existing main sheet becket on boom
    • install new Beckets on boom.
    • investigate mounting main sheet blocks on CB trunk.
  • FS "Aurelian" needs:
    • Jib sheet cleats relocated.
    • Roller furling gear installed.
    • Stern plug installed.
    • Traveler installed.
    • Deck strap for jib sheet preventer installed.
  • FS "Yellow Submarine" needs:
    • Stern plug installed.
    • Traveler installed.
    • Deck strap for jib sheet preventer installed.
    • Sand and varnish CB trunk cap.
  • Buccaneer Powerboats needs:
    • Thwarts installed.
    • Fenders installed.
  • Finish priming of the lifting bars for the daysailors.
  • Continue repair of Shallow Water Marks. We have a good plan and the parts!
  • Masts of two new Flying Scots:
    • Install new jib halyard, cleat and cheek block.
    • Install new main halyard - new sheave, cleat, cheek block, and line.
    • Install tack reefing line, cleat and deck strap.
    • Install Topping Lifts.
  • American 18 - replace mainsheet cleat with ratchet block.
  • All daysailor masts - tack reefing cleats and line.
  • Whip a few of the 420 main sheets.
  • Replace all the plastic 420 gooseneck toggles with new Stainless Steel toggles.
  • New 420 main tack pins.
  • Paint red lines on FS CB trunks to indicate board up/down limits.
Please come join us! Many hands make light work. No experience is necessary.
